I Loved Someone That Didn't Love Me
People have asked this question since the beginning of time. It's a sad question, but the answer does not have to be equally as sad.
Ask yourself why you don't believe you are loved. More likely than not, it's because you don't FEEL loved. While feelings may not always be accurate, right or wrong, they are there. And they are there for a reason. If your feelings are telling you that something is wrong - tune in. What are they telling you is wrong?
Does this person care about your wants, your needs, your happiness? In what ways does this person demonstrate that he or she cares? Does he or she care about or validate your feelings? Is he or she there for you when you need him or her?
Love is a verb, as well as, a noun. It's mystifying when someone says that he or she loves you, but you don't see it. Perhaps this person truly believes what he or she is saying, but if your definition of love isn't the same, then you will NEVER feel loved by this person.
Ask yourself this:
Do I love him/her because I need him/her?
or
Do I need him/her because I love him/her?
If you chose the former, you don't love him/her any more than he/she loves you. If you chose the latter, my condolences. Because there is nothing you can say or do to make someone love you.
So...what DO you do? You set boundaries around how badly you will allow yourself to be treated. You wait for someone who is worthy of you and what you have to offer. You love yourself!
