How Do I Rest With My Thoughts?

I've been meditating for a few years on and off now, and lately have been through something that makes meditation a necessity just to have a peaceful mind sometimes.

I find lately, however, that my thoughts are pretty saturated in this problem and I find it hard to really centre myself.

Have any of you had to find ways to go above and beyond what you're used to in just being? Has anything worked?

What kind of meditation do you do? Just counting/following the breath?

I know this is an old story, & maybe you found a technique to support you through that time, but if you'd still like to talk about practice, I've sat zazen for 15 years & I might have some useful ideas.
