My Cat Died Unexpectedly Yesterday Afternoon.

I came home from work, set my bag down on the kitchen counter, and turned to see my cat fall to the floor - he'd been standing on the back of the living room chair, the way he usually does when greeting me.

At first, I thought he was rolling around and showing his belly, something he does when he wants me to pet him. I realized quickly something was wrong - his legs were straight out and twitching, and his tail was at an odd angle. His mouth was open, his pupils dilated, and I couldn't see if he was breathing.

I was already crying, I knelt down and started stroking him and talking to him. He didn't move, but he began purring. A minute or two later and he faded away.

I'm heartbroken. He'd never had any health problems, and he seemed fine the night before. My other cat - his sister - has never been separated from him since they came to me as kittens 11 years ago. Last night, she kept searching the house and crying.

He has given me so much love and laughter over the years. He would lie on the back of the couch with his head on my shoulder as I read, or lie next to me, his head on my lap. I'm so, so thankful I was with him in the end. I'd like to believe his purring was because he knew I was there and he knew he was loved.

Thank you! I miss my buddy, but yes, I hope he's happily playing at the Rainbow Bridge. And his sister has taken up some of his habits, so perhaps he is visiting!

I'm so sorry for your loss. But I know that he waits for you at the Rainbow Bridge and I believe that he comes to visit you!

All the best.
