I miss my cat more than I miss my last gf.

When I was going thru my divorce, I decided to get a cat. Adjusting to being alone after 10 years is kind of difficult. So I saw an ad in the newspaper for free kittens. I dropped by the place, and this one little black and white kitten ran right up to me and would not leave me alone. As I walked around, seeing what all was available, she followed me, meowing at me and rubbing against my leg. So guess which one I ended up taking? I say that this cat chose me, rather than the other way around. She had mitten paws, so she had these HUGE extra thumbs that actually touched the ground when she walked.

I was sleeping on the couch because the ex took all the other furniture in the house. The cat would sleep right on my ribs, or on my shoulder (I could only sleep on my side on the couch).

One day when I got off work I made a frozen pizza and sat down to watch NCIS or play video games (I don't remember which). Here comes the cat, racing in from the kitchen, and hopped up on my lap....right onto my just-out-of-the-oven pizza! She then raced across the top of the couch, jumped to the floor, and jumped up to the window sill and proceeded to lick nuclear-hot pizza sauce and mozarella cheese from her paws.

When I moved to a different state, I put her in the truck with me and put a litter box on the floor for her. She spent the entire 30-something hours perched in the back window, just chilling.

She was vocal and very affectionate.

Unfortunately she caught some kind of disease and got sick and died on New Year's Day 2013. And now, with my current job, I can't get a pet because I basically live on the road.

It's amazing how much joy an animal can bring into your life. There's a good chance that the only reason I'm alive today is because I didn't want her to either starve or eat my corpse if I offed myself (it was a bad time in my life, and I just wanted the misery to end. I prayed for a fatal car wreck on my way to work more than once during that period.)

She was an awesome cat.
