Some dogs are harder to let go of than people are. You were kind to let him go when you did.

Animals seemingly carry extra special powers in the way that they love us unconditionally. I once saw something that said, 'I want to be the type of person my dog thinks I am'. That pretty much said it all. I had a golden retriever and when that dog passed it took a piece of my heart with it. What I wouldn't do to feel her soft fur next to me again. Everyone says this about their loved and cherished lost pet...but that was the best damn dog I've ever had the opportunity to love. I enjoyed your tribute and can whole heartily understand.

I find sometimes that I feel more compassion for my pets than some humans. I miss my golden retriever( Harley) everyday he made me smile all the time with his big goofy grin. Ty for sharing your story of your buddy so I could share mine!

I know how much it hurts to say goodbye to a dear animal friend. What a great gift you gave him at the end: a dignified, peaceful passage out of this life, an end to his confusion and suffering. Every dog should be fortunate enough to have a person who loves them enough to let them go when the time comes. Bless you.

I know how that goes. I still miss my 'Dudley' from 8 years ago.

aw. That's sad, but a great tribute to him ... you can still smile at his memory. And you weren't being selfish, you were brave to let him go before he really started to suffer.
