I Chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo And Am Happy!I am a person who has battled depression all my life.
And I was born looking for the practice of chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo...I KNEW that a practice had to exist that I could put my energy into, that would come out in the direction I intended. In other words...a vehicle to make my dreams come true. I looked everywhere...into regular Buddhism, but it said that my desires were the CAUSE of my suffering, and I wanted to KEEP my DESIRES thank you.
So I moved from Chicago to San Francisco looking for this practice.
After a year I was laid off from my job working for Werner Erhard and Associates (it was called "est" then, and John Denver and many other cool people were part of it...it is called "Landmark Education" now). It was a cool job...helping people take weekend trainings that created huge breakthroughs in their lives.
After being laid off I fell into a deep depression, and was lucky enough to make a friend who told me about chanting. This Buddhism says you can KEEP YOUR DESIRES...THEY ARE ENLIGHTENMENT! And I said YAHOO!!! The words mean "I fuse my life with the mystic law of cause and effect through sound vibration." This energy is the uniting force of the universe. nam Myoho Renge Kyo is its name. It is the title of the lotus Sutra, the Buddha's highest teaching.
I have been chanting every day...every morning and evening now for 26 years! I have made so many of my dreams come true. I have two incredible Buddha babies (who are now young men) and they are happy and accomplishing their dreams, I have had tremendous career experiences and a fulfilling life.
I have overcome depression, lost 70 pounds, been through a pretty major surgery and have been living a very happy life.
Now I devote myself as much as I can to helping others learn to chant. My blog is chantforhappiness.blogspot.com and it has more of my stories on it. Ask me anything. This practice works.
Daisaku Ikeda is my beloved mentor. He is unequaled throughout the world. He is a human with extraordinary "ichinen" - will put into action.
The Soka Gakkai website is sgi-usa.org - people chant these words all around the world.
