What's the Problem?

I need a job so I will get off this wagon I'm on. I feel like I don't have a social life and I have no desire to exercise. I eat even when I am not hungry. I'm trying to lose weight.......what a joke. I need to get back into the job world so I can feel better about myself and the incentive to exercise. I miss the chats, responsiblities and the great work I deliver to any employer. I have lots of education and experience, so what's the problem?

mindset ;)

Well lets find the problem. What is your experience and education in? You have to ask yourself, why would someone pay me? What makes 'me' desirable to an employee. And as much as we hate to admit it, remember, everything is relative. Your competing with other people out there who want it just as bad, if not more. Remember you have to make it known that not only can you perform the job required, but you can perform it better than any other person who applies. Try to set concrete goals and deadlines for yourself, ones with quantitative ends, so that way you can truly measure and aim for them. As well as recognize when you fail or achieve it. Never celebrate to soon and never give up. Good luck!

I'm right there with you.

Happy hooker, radient and lucky girl have the "right stuff"... worked for me as well. Best of luck to all searching... keep plugging away :-)

I just wanted to let you know that not only can I relate but I've started blogging about my unemployed life.

The cultivation of my "muffin top", my mushy brain, my lack of motivation, not showering etc.. etc..
If/when your feeling bad about yourself it makes it harder to write a good resume or CV & harder to succeed at an interview. One idea is to register with an employment agency.

Look, try the new product I'm repping... free. If you like it, you can start a new business for next to nothing working a few hours a week. Exactly what have you got to loose?
hey
just wanted to say i know EXACTLY how you feel.. i need something to occupy my time and get me out of the house, get me moving around and thinking. i cant STAND sitting here watching my life waste away..

and Ive applied to a bunch of places as well and haven't heard anything back.. i almost have a degree and Im an honor student and cant even get a job.. how degrading is that?

Work for a temporary agency. You will be able to make connection, and if you do not like it, you can quit. It is a great way to learn new skills and to get exposure. I supported myself 2 years this way.

Put together a Resume of whatever you have done during school that is like a job.

Write out your character strenghts and your present goals.

Ask for part time empoyment if they can not do full time.

Try working Per Diem... have three or four companies that will Call You to do do ...whatever, then you are free to say yes to several things for the week and you can say no to several things for the week.

I do Per Diem work for Three companies and will make the time work for me.

Employers want someone who calls back soon after a voice mail or message has been left.

Someone who advises them at the first opportunity, if not immediately, when there is a problem getting your work done or a need to change plans.

Someone who comes to work on time, who leaves next to last, who delivers on time or before time.

Someone who does not give excuses but who has solutions. So if you have a problem getting something done as they want, or on time, YOU FIGURE out a way to make it happen. Or you let them know immediately and work WITH THEM on a solution.

They want someone who is:

Honest...does not take supplies or fudge on time sheet or lie.

Patient...does not use body, verbal or written langue to show impatience.

Who can share imformation without acting like a "teacher" or "mentor" but who does act like a "team pla<x>yer".

Who will notice something that is apparently going wrong and tell the responsible person about it without being a "tattle tale".

Who takes information and uses it to tighten up the schedule, communicate better, and save time and effort. This will included the ability to kindly let co workers know when they are infringing on your ability to be creative, save time and communicate.

Who dresses professionaly,

Who does not stink.

Who keeps personal problems at home and does not share them in the office.

Who apears easy to approach.

I guarantee that if you get your foot in the door and are able to SHOW all the above characteristics, any company that has a space for you would consider you a prize.

I know people with master's degrees
that have difficulty getting or keeping jobs because they do not follow one or several items on the above list.

P.S. I am completing a business degree and have been a director of several institutions. Thought this advice may be valuable at least as a reminder of things you probably already know.

Ugh. Get Jobs. even a ****** one. i guarantee you are not too good for anything. I have education leaking out of my *******, and I have had jobs in **** shops, restaurants and worse. I moved to the town I am living in TWO WEEKS AGO and I have three jobs already. Stop making excuses and do it. I understand alot of places initially don't want to hire people without experience-- but persistance WILL pay off, I promise you. Put in an application, wait two days, and call or stop by EVERY DAY until you get an interview. If you do these things, you will get hired somewhere. I fyou just sit online and blog about how nic a job would be, then you have no one but yourself and your laziness to blae fr your joblessness.

I am experiencing the same thing. I've graduated but can't find a job that is willing to take me without work experience. On top of this I live in a country that has affirmative action so certain races and genders are discriminated against when it come to jobs.

Thanks darkenedheart. I wonder if we could help each other feel better about our situations?

I feel the same way you do...
