I had an interview for a job at a fast food store and I'm torn between wanting to go for it and not.
Fast food chains are by definition stressful and fast paced and I don't know whether, at this stage of my anxiety and depression, I'm ready to deal with this sort of environment.
Saying that, I don't want to regret passing on it - there are so many reasons I should go for it:
- My family is having financial trouble right now so it would help my parents if I got a job to pay for my unnecessary spending
- I want to try to be more independent
- Getting a job where I interact with others could be good for my anxiety and give me more confidence
But at the same time my moods aren't entirely stable - I have bouts of depression and anxiety at least once a week (twice average) - and I'm worried I'm not ready for a job and it might just make me worse.
I have a habit of overloading myself at the slightest indication that my anxiety is reducing. For example, I felt my anxiety reducing, I spent an entire day out at school then out with my friends then out with my family. I spent the next week unable to leave the house again.
I know I could just ask for a casual job but that would likely put me on during the busy shifts - something I definitely cannot handle - but telling them I have anxiety means I most likely won't get the job.
Part of me wants to wait for a better opportunity (I'm not all that fond of the idea of standing about making sandwiches for hours on end) but part of me feels like I won't get a better opportunity (which is stupid since I'm reasonably smart and competent).
If I'm being quite honest, I do want a job. Just not this job.
