I Need a Job
I am a Uni student and I've been looking for a part time job for over two months.
I check 6 different job listing sites every single day and I check most of them twice. I apply for anything that would fit my schedule and personality. I apple for at least 3 suitable jobs every week, often more. Still nothing.
I have a problem in that because I am a student and live away from my parents - I have to pay rent which is really expensive right now wherever you live, so I have to be on government student assistance or I just wouldn't be able to afford it without working all the time when I should be studying. But the assistance only just covers my rent so I need a job to be able to afford food, electricity and internet access.
Unfortunately, this makes for a kind of 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' situation because if you are on this assistance you cannot earn more than $113 per week. (You have to report all your income and give them your bank details so they can confirm with the bank that you aren't over earning). I am 24 and the award wages for someone my age in the sort of jobs I can do are around $20 an hour.
This means I can't really work more than 6 hours a week.
And very, very few jobs want to hire you for six hours per week. Most casual positions are 2-3 shifts per week at probably an average of 9 hours.
But if I went off the assistance I would have to work so much to afford my rent that I would barely be able to attend my classes or study.
This makes it very hard to find anything that would suit both me and the government agency that gives me my assistance - on top of which after finding it I then have to GET the job which so far isn't happening.
I am very frustrated with the whole experience and I am completely and totally broke after two months of spending my savings on just the very basics. I don't know what I'm going to eat tomorrow because I'm about to run out of food and I've no money left.
I need a job. I have a good resume and good experience. I may not be an uber-bubbly ever-smiling squeaky clean retail drone - but am perfectly friendly and I get my work done.
Somebody give me a ******* job already.
Stupid government assistance. Stupid potential employers. Grrr.
