To Join Or Not To Join?

For about 2 years now I have been wanting to join the military. I went through a phase wanting to go with the Marines but I realised through looking better into that, that it wasn't the best option. I've been looking into the Navy and I think it would be a great experience in that it will help pay for college, give me first hand experience in what I want to do, let me travel to place I would otherwise never be able to see, and it will let me try and make a difference in something other than myself.  I feel as if I have researched it enough to make an informed decision but most people in my family I talk to think it isn't a good choice and that my recruiter is just telling me what I want to hear so I'll sign the papers and ship off.  I feel like this is something I want to do, something I feel a need to do but I am very family oriented and don't want to just leave without their ok since I am 18 already. I don't know what to do, I want to follow my heart but it's telling me 2 different things.

I was in the Navy for seven and a half years and I enjoyed being on sea duty. I was stationed in charleston SC for five years. I have been to the mediterrain sea 5 times I enjoyed it every time. I recommend the navy for just about anyone who wants to see the world. Your recuriter cannot gaurientee were you may or maynot me stationed after bootcamp. if you go into the navy be sure to get an "A School" it will make your choice a much easier one.
