I Need Someone to Talk to
I work in a law firm. It is a nice, small firm, and I like my job very much.
Okay now that is out of the way.
I have only been at my firm for about five months. Prior to that, I was a victim of economic cutbacks at my previous firm. I got an interview with a law firm through a friend, and was told I would be replacing a woman who was absolutely obnoxious, and nuts. I didn't get that job. That was okay, I am a firm believer in "everything happens for a reason," and I am much happier in the job I eventually got.
About a month after I started, one of the other assistants got fired, and Sue came to work in her place. At first, my co-worker, Julie, and I thought she was pretty nice, albeit a little strange. Sue said she occasionally talked to herself (oh hell who doesn't? CONFESS CONFESS..lol) and we of course told her we all did that.
Well, in the last several weeks, Sue has begun to drive Julie and me absolutely nuts. It is like she is having a constant conversation with herself. She talks, sings (not songs, just LA LA LA), tries to converse when we are working. Trust me, I am a busy girl...I don't have much time for conversing at work. If I do have a minute, and am in a conversation with someone, Sue is right there to stick her two cents in. When she types, she bangs the keyboard so hard that it sounds like it is going to snap in two.
Now, we work in pretty close quarters. We each have a cubicle, as many assistants do, and Sue sits between me and Julie. We can hear her on the phone, she is rude to clients, other attorneys, personnel from judge's chambers. Yesterday she was extremely rude to our IT guy. If someone wants something from her in another office and calls, she will talk, and then hang up when the conversation is finished and say something like "fat chance of you getting that!" Unprofessional. When she first started working, she asked a client if they had mental problems because they were on disability. Rude.
Julie and I have started making jokes about throwing stuff over the cubicle to shut her up. I mean, it is CONSTANT. Constant chatter.
And then there is Sue's hygiene. Generally she looks clean, but when she takes her boots off, OMG it smells like a jock's lucky socks that are never washed. Julie and Tammy, our bookeeper, had to put a Febreeze air freshener under her desk. Then it made her sneeze so they had to move it.
On top of everything else, Sue caught a cold. She coughs and sneezes and DOES NOT COVER HER MOUTH!!! I just got over pneumonia in November, and after that I would, oh I don't know. LIKE TO STAY HEALTHY!
It finally got so bad that Julie and I had to complain to HR and I spoke to one of the attorneys I work for. Fortunately, it seems Sue has gotten the subtle hints, at least for today she was quiet.
Well here is the piece de resistance. Remember how I said I was supposed to replace some crazy woman at the law firm I interviewed for?
Sue is that crazy woman.
FML.
