Is My Best Friend Happier Without Me?

When i met my best friend we clicked straight away, we had so much in common and we had some really good times together. Unfortunately he was also depressed, and during the time I've known him, he tried to kill himself many times. He used to self-harm alot, and one time when he was drunk he carved the word "death" into his wrists at college and i cleared up the blood for him. It was a really disturbing and upsetting experience for me, and although we never spoke of it, I really worried for his safety. After he left college, he hasn't spoken to me, and whenever i try to get in touch, he avoids me. Whilst i respect that it was a difficult time for him, and that he just wants to forget it happened, I am finding it difficult to cope with the loss of our friendship. I haven't spoken to him for 2 years, and i miss him more everyday. i just want to know he's finally happy.

Considering someone your best friend is an honor that most cannot comprehend, much less respect. I'm sorry he would treat you that way. You did what you could though; you have nothing to be sorry for. He may be happy, he may be miserable. Unfortunately until he decides to open up to you again you probably won't find out either way. Best of luck.
