How Many Chances Do We Get At "True Love?"

n 1981 I married my true love . We had two children together and then divorced in 1997. A few years after the divorce we were bitter toward each other to say the least. We then decided it was best to let it go and began talking civil to each other. She passed away in 2005 at the age of 42.
In 1998 I married my true love again. Different girl of course, but definitely my "true love." In January of 2009 she passed away at the age of 43. We did so much together and had so many plans for the future. I was going to surprise her with a trip to Maui in April, and we were going to Egypt in 2012.
I figure most people are doing good if they can find their one "true love" and I was blessed with finding two. Now at the age of 46, I wonder if I will ever get another chance to find someone to spend the rest of my life with, or am I going to be alone. Sure, I will have my friends and family, but there is nothing like having someone to share your dreams with. Someone who understands you, or at least tolerates you if they do not completely understand. Someone who I will grow old with and when we retire we can talk about all we did together and what we still plan to do.
But I am also scared when I think of making that committment again. Taking that big step with someone to be with. I know I cannot go through losing someone again. The pain is just too unbearable. I have the burden of memories of two different lives.
It would be nice to know there is someone for me. And I wonder if I ever do find that someone if I will let them become that someone in my life, or will I decide to not take the chance again? It would be nice to know what the future holds. I know I do not want to be alone.

 | Posted May 16th, 2009 at 2:13PM I am 39, it took me until last year to find my one true love. I am #2 for him. His first wife of many years died in an auto accident 5 years ago. He is 49. He never thought he would find this kind of love again, and yet, here we are. He has gotten two chances, and I have finally gotten my first. Who knows what life has in store. Try to enjoy what you have and let life happen as it will. If loves comes to you again, you will know what to do. Those who have loved are far more likely to love again. The good thing about that is.... at least you know what true love is! |

I'm not going to tell you that you should stop looking for your 'true love' but just live your life while your still alive and when you meet another woman and you feel that connection you'll know its right. don't just start looking and loving anyone that catches your eye. not that you would I'm just saying. you've had a couple bad experiences but you'll survive just hang in there. I'm sure you'll find some to go to Maui and Egypt with! +2 nods |
