I Think..

A personal story in the experience: I Need to Smile More
I t might help cheer me up. I'm trying so hard to be positive. And those occasions when people (Brazi and Dot, usually) say such humorous things and make me laugh... I feel so much better.

Lots of things would make me smile if I'd let them.

Like right now. My cat is molesting my bottle of juice. That makes me smile.

I think I'm going to shut up.

She's molesting your juice?! Naughty kitty!

I looked at this group and initially thought "If I smiled any more, my face might break, or I'd completely lose the ability to pout or frown."

She's a very naughty kitty.

Haha. It's great that you smile so much, Dot.

smiling is much better than frowning and laughing from what I understand extends your life. The fact is that life is short. We don't think it is but here I am 35 years old and where did it all go. In 15 years..I will be 50..thats about a dozen more holidays and then there you go. I always believed in the saying carpe diem. Seize the day..but I also used to believe in harnessing the moment. Its those moments that come and go for us. Where does it go? Good question, but here we are and well if you can find a way to smile...do it...do it all the time. I try to even though I have been sad lately. I know that in time the clouds pass and the sunshine comes in. Being positive..finding good things in life, great people , friends and family. If you don't like your family..then find friends that will be your family...life is what we make of it..right? I battle my own addictions and its my fault. I allowed myself to get sucked into the stresses of circumstances and heartache. I still know though that life is short and charlie chaplin wrote a song called "smile". I really liked your posting and it sounds like you have a great cat. Sending a hug!

I've decided to embrace the carpe diem mentality as well. I've found it helps a lot. It's still a struggle to smile for me; I've been dealing with clinical depression for years, and it's been hard. But there's this quote.... by Ralph Waldo Emerson, I believe: "When it's dark enough, you can see the stars." I've decided to do that, to try to see the positive, the beauty in life. And have found that I'm slowly, slowly succeeding. It's encouraging. I smile a little bit more now. And every little bit helps.
