This paper approaches text types and the typological characteristics of legal texts in the perspective of legal translation.
The study of legal translation should be based upon that of legal language, for legal language boasts its distinguished characteristics compared with other professional languages.
It also includes the impact of the translator's prejudice upon the meaning of the text and the translator's creation in translation, which is in direct relationship to the legal translation.
The author finds that FS is also fit for analysis of legal document and thus sheds light on legal translation.
