When Did Snarkiness Become So Common?

Rude - often cruel - comments usually aren't funny. Let's face it, there are very few among us with the wit of Dorothy Parker. And yet snarky, sharp comments have become a popular and accepted norm.  And it's everywhere - you see it on television, you hear it on the radio, in the office and at any social gathering.

Truthfully, I think it often has more to do with the would-be comedian's own insecurities than anything else.

I sometimes wish things would get back to the way they were when people weren't always putting each other down. Humor used to be funnier! wow, i feel old saying that!!

Yes, I agree, it can often give an insight into the heckler's own insecurities.
