I Oppose Patriarchy
What does a patriarchal society mean?
Men are entitled to the upper hand? They rule the home? They have privilege in the workplace? Why should we allow this?
Here is a scenario I'd like to explore. Should women stay out of the workforce and just have babies and clean house as some men believe? Well think about this.
I went to the grocery store. Most of the employees were women. Almost all of the cashiers were, the deli counter was run by two women and the customer service desk was taken care of by a woman.
Then I went to the bank, the tellers were all women.
I had lunch at a local diner. Like all the restaurants here, the waitresses were mostly women. The hostess who greeted me at the door, a woman.
I went to the local mall. Low and behold, most shops were run by women. The clerks were all women.
Next I had a dentist appointment, All the dentists were men except for one, but the receptionist was a woman, the account manager was a woman and all the dental assistants and dental hygienists were women.
As I have been driving around town, I noticed most low salary jobs were held by women. The local schools had mostly female teachers as well.
The hospital staff had mostly female nurses when I had recent out patient surgery. My local beauty salon was run by all women.
Now I suppose if women should stay at home and be mothers, cooks and house keepers and stay out of the work force, we have a problem. All these low paying jobs would have to be manned, literally. Now I wonder how many men would be willing to give up their white collar jobs in a cushy office to work for minimum wage. Not many I imagine. So will all these businesses have to shut down? What about all the women whose husbands have died? How would they support their children?
I grew up in a household that was run by my father. He was the boss. He drank heavily, couldn't keep a job and died at 65 leaving my mother with very little money. He was terrible with money! Yep, a great patriarch!!!
But if you men want to do all the work in the world, fight all the wars you start and get killed. I suppose I could sit home all day watching TV, get my nails done, go shopping, have lunch with the girls... while you slave away.. Just make sure you make enough money. I don't come cheap.
