The unrelenting feeling of worthlessness; it's intense and there is very little relief for people who experience depression. The symptoms differ greatly from what would typically be described as sadness. Daily life is hindered greatly, the ability to function at work, pay attention in school, even eating and sleeping patterns can deteriorate. What's worse is that activities that you may have once enjoyed lose their luster.

This is very true. Depression basically shuts down your thrive engine. You just can't live normally when you're "medically ill".
