My Favorite Author

As my boys were groing up, at Christmas time my Wife and I would help them put out the cookies and milk for Santa and carrots for the reindeer. They always wrote Santa a note with our help. And Santa would always write a note in return.

As they grew older we weren't quite sure if they still believed. We suspected that if they didn't they were keeping it a secret to protect us. One day in early December, I'm not sure what year it was, my younger son confronted my wife and wanted the TRUTH as he was starting to get teased at school for believing in Santa Clause. So my wife sat him down and told him the truth and that Santa truely exists in the hearts of those that believe in him.

We never really talked about it with my older son. He's in college now and as far as we know HE still believes.

That same Christmas, when my younger son learned the truth, we put out the milk and the cookies and the carrots as usual. We wrote Santa a note, as usual. I retired for the night as my wife finished placing the presents under the tree.

In the morning, Santa left a short and simple note for our boys.

"Dear Joey and Tommy,
Never stop believing.

Till this day, that note is the most beautiful piece of literature I've ever read. And till this day we still put out the cookies, the milk, the carrots and the note.
