Relay For Life Number 3

I just finished my 3rd Relay for Life event. I am exhausted!

I love this event. Cancer touches us all. I don't think there is anyone that doesn't know a family member, friend, co-worker who has suffered from cancer. Or maybe even suffers from it or is a survivor themselves. The outpouring of support from the community was great and the camaraderie out at the event is such that just doesn't exist anywhere else I have been.

My team raised our fundraising goal, and I passed my personal goal. It makes me happy to know that we are doing something to help families who are dealing with such a scary disease.

Every year each team has to pick a form of cancer to profile and this year my team chose Melanoma because the theme of our event was Hope in Paradise, a tropical theme. My grandmother is a survivor of Melanoma, so the theme this year has personal meaning to me.

We were able to get sunscreen samples from several companies to hand out to the participants at the event as they walked the track, and it was a lot of fun.

We had great raffle prizes this year too. I made a garden bench that was pretty cute, and my friend and co-worker won that! We also had a golf trip to San Diego with $100.00 gas card, we had two very cool planters, we had a Starbuck's gift basket and another one from a local design store.

I won one of the planters that that my team raffled and also a basket of flowers from one of the other teams! So cool! The team next to ours had a huge cabana as a raffle prize. It was awesome! The creativity of the people is amazing.

I don't know how much out little town raised as a whole this year. I hope it was significant. I hope to keep on participating for years to come!
