The Coupon Lady

At a place I worked in till a few months ago, there was a coworker I'd notice at lunch time or break times, she was always poring through magazines and newspapers, clipping out coupons. She wasn't someone who talked much to me, but I took note of it, kind of thinking "I ought to do that" in addition to, "Bless her heart." One day, she left break to go cashier up front, and another coworker mentioned how one of her close relatives has cancer, she just found out she has a crippling condition, and it is very difficult for her to get by as she is not qualifying for Medicaid and cannot afford to pay for her own health insurance through work. While I know anyone could do something if they truly wanted, it touched my heart that this lady was so beaten down with everything going on all at once in her life, it did seem one of those kind of moments in life a person could NOT do what they truly wanted, no matter how hard they worked with the tools currently in hand. As I was not able to give her money for various reasons, including that I am not independently wealthy or anything, I started combing newspapers and magazines for savings I could leave sitting on the break room table for her to find, without knowing it came from me. Every day I'd try to find something to bring in and leave for her. She got most of it too! It was kinda fun.

She was also mentioned to personnel as someone who might benefit from associate aid (we were a tight knit workplace that helped each other in that fashion), and funds were taken up for her later on, in addition to more flexibility in her work schedule.

Good Rachel and for your kindness, you have been the blessing!

I think it's awesome that you left those magazines for her to find. As opp. to giving them to her directly.

you have a beautiful quality and that is a 'generous' one. you did NOT hold back from helping someone when you had the power to do so. i feel you will be blessed in return.

That is a great story to cheer anybody up. Thank you so much. You are a very good example to follow for all of us.

That was so nice of you to do what you could to help out a fellow worker...Congratulations, and thanks for being a good friend.

You remind me of my sister, who's heart is large and bountiful and who too, when she can, after noting such things of REAL importance, will do what she can. It made me smile.
Often its more convenient to think that people CAN always get what they need by their own efforts, but as you saw for yourself it's simply not the case, and you did what you could. My spirits due to depression and dysthemia, are low mostly, but your story gave them a lift this morning, so I thank you. ( In London)

Oh yes, what a "refreshing" enlightening story here. You are a very kind soul, to take the time and concern-to help out this distressed co-worker. We Need more folks like yourself!!!
Peace to you...

I'm proud of you. I don't know you but as I read your letter it seems you have a good heart. Pls continue to do so. You can pray for her also. BE MAD(Make A Difference). :-) Godbless.

That was sweet wish alot more would be as kind as you was.

thats so nice of you..Bless you :)

Its nice to know theirs still good people like you out there. This story better up my day. Thanks for sharing

Well done you for offering kindness. We in the UK are very fortunate in having a national health service, which offers medical coverage at point of need for all regardless of income or any other state.
Its odd that America does not support free medical coverage at point of need, how much less stressful your friend's situation would be. The greatest power in the world? Should a nation's greatness be judged on the way it treats its poorest people?
I wish your friend well.
xx

That was a truly beautiful thing you did. Thank you.
