Voting Down/frowning Comments
Members will not have access to who votes down or frowns their comment. This was a temporary error that has since been corrected.
EP still tracks this information which staff will review, so anytime you believe the voting down/frowning tool is being abused, please let us know.
Cheers!

Posted Jul 7th, 2009 at 7:00PM I do too, think it should just go away period. Isn't it just a lot more work for you all there on staff Arsineh? Rather than having to keep track of those who abuse it, it seems like you'd just do better with out it and get notified if someone is abusing their rights to comment. Not sure if I am making sense here.
Posted Jul 7th, 2009 at 7:16PM I'm glad you all are fixing this! Thank you so much! But next time you all review software change requests, could you consider removing the approval buttons all together? You can't sort by them, they don't seem to serve much purpose, and I never take notice of them anyway. Just my opinion, and I'm being really picky since for the most part they don't bother me at all. Thanks again! e/g
Posted Jul 7th, 2009 at 7:18PM, last updated Jul 7th, 2009 at 7:32PM APArsineh, thank you for correcting that glitch! Regarding the utility of frowns, very recently my comment, "Please, you *must* seek treatment for your severe depression" was frowned down. To put things in a clearer perspective, my comment was on a story which contained a clear suicide warning. The suicide hotline I called in that person's country made me read the title and text of the story to them, verbatim, and they advised me that it was a "credible" warning. If a comment is truly offensive, I believe that members can always flag it. Or the "owner" of the story can simply delete it. Btw way, if EP is listening, I'd like to put in a request for the system to be tweaked so that the "owner" of a story can only *delete* a comment left by another person. If you allow the "owners" to *edit* comments (as seems to be the case now), you leave it open for them to twist what the commenter is saying. There can't be any good reason for this. [IMPORTANT UPDATE!!! Sorry, I made a big mistake. The "owner" of a *story* cannot edit somebody else's comments. BUT you can do so with comments left on your blog!!! I hope that EP will have a good think about this...] Thank you -- Andrew
Posted Jul 7th, 2009 at 7:34PM IMPORTANT UPDATE!!! Sorry folks, I made a big mistake. The "owner" of a *story* cannot edit somebody else's comments. BUT you can do so with comments left on your *blog*!!! I hope that EP will have a good think about this... the potential for malicious abuse is very disturbing to me. Thank you! Andrew
