My Reaction To Dark Souls. . .

The graphics were so much more improved from what I noticed. I was disappointed that there wasn't more hairstyles to customize your character with. I ended up going with the same class (thief) as I did before in Demons Souls because that class proved most valuable to my ability. So after that was said and done I started the game. I realized that my characters face was all messed up and not human like. Comes to find out you start off as a "hollow" or undead being I would say. The game really doesn't provide much story line, but more of an open world environment.
I managed to get through the prologue with no problem. The first boss battle encounter gave me a flash back to Demons Souls prologue. If anyone has played it and knows what I am talking about good for you cause I did the same thing. AVOID DEATH AT ALL CAUSE! For those who don't know of the prologue you end up in a boss battle that is against the inevitable. One swipe one kill your dead and your sent to the nexus and the prologue ends. Anyways, I noticed that when I was running away from the boss I saw a door and ran straight for it and realized I jumped. I was like that's a new and cool feature. However, for the new gamers that are new to the soul games, there really isn't really a manual for controls except for the basic controls that you read from soul signs.
Okay, so after the prologue was over I ended up at Firelink Shrine and there happened to be many different ways to go. I had no Idea where to start first. So I choose to go down first. As I ascended down I found my way traveling to Anor Londo. My first encounter involved stationary Hollows that would not retaliate unless attacked. Of course I attacked leveled up and found my way to Anor Londo where I got mauled by Ghosts. . .FML. And so the pain begins. I decided to go back for revenge to avenge my own death. That in itself was a bad idea. . .I got mauled again of course and then realized I can't hurt the ghosts, let alone block their attacks. I decided to move on and try another area.
I managed to find another area not to far away from Anor Londo called the Valley of the Drakes. I made my way down the cliff-side to discover a dead dragon with many treasures with the brave nameless soldiers who fought to their last breath in order to bring this dragon down. I decided to loot their bodies of treasures to see what was worth keeping. I picked up the first treasure and by my surprise. . .the dragon came back to life killing me in one swipe. I became victim to a dead dragon, great. . .just great. I went back to grab my bloodstain to recover the lost souls I had gained from the hollow earlier. I barely managed to get out alive as that dragons toxic breath about took another toll on me. I continued forward and found myself inside a cave filled with giant ogres. . .And of course who dies again. . .I do. . . I do.
I managed to learn the tactics of the ogres attacks and responses so I ended up using this as a soul harvesting area for a bit till I leveled up more. When I was ready I marched forward into a place called Blight Town. That alone seeing the mosquitoes again made me cringe as I hated those dudes in Demons Souls. And of course I got poisoned. GO FIGURE! Once again another death. . .
So long story short I found out the bottom was not the best route to go unless you want to level up some before heading up. I ran into and still am running into the most frustrating ways to die. This game reminds me of playing Battle Toads on snes back in the day. . .This game is definitely a challenge and the key is to understand your environments, enemies and soul level needed to stand a chance. Once you get further into the game you will see the path that you are to follow in order to get an idea of how areas unlock. I strongly suggest getting this game if you haven't. It will challenge your patients and gaming skills to the fullest. As the back of the case says "Prepare to Die." Good luck to all who test your skills to this game.

P.S. If you can beat this game without dying. You should be in the Genius Book of World Records!
