The Prayer of the Heart

Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me.  This is the Jesus Prayer.  Sometimes it is called the Prayer of the Heart.  This comes from Mark 10:48 (and Luke 18:38-39) when Blind Bartimaeus cries out to Jesus.

Orthodox Christians call this the Prayer of the Heart.  The classic text on this prayer is The Way of a Pilgrim.

Praying the Jesus prayer is one way to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

The pilgrim says that diligent practice of the Jesus Prayer will cause it to sink down into your heart, saturating you with the love of God.  I have been practicing the Jesus Prayer for over 20 years, longing for that to happen.  I have had many beautiful and uplifting experiences.
