Sometimes I Wonder

Are we free, or are we determined beings? Is there really such a thing as free-will? Are any of our choices really ours to make, or have they been predetermined for us by our innate characteristics and circumstances? To many, the answer may seem to be a simple "yes, of course we are free". But, if you consider everything that has been determined for us, by factors outside of our control, this question becomes much more difficult to answer.

If we are determined, it is a determination so complex, could we ever possibly understand it? Perhaps believing that we are free is a shortcut we use to make sure that every possibility for action is disclosed to ourselves. But given everything we understand, see, and feel; we always seem to make the choice we think is "best" in the moment. So are we determined to do that? Maybe that's just how humans work... Or maybe it's even more complex than that.
