I Didn't Want to Until I Saw Something Scary

Another user on EP posted about what it is like to die at 53 from smoking.

I'd managed to quit the habit, but was still ducking out for an occasional cig.

when I saw the reality of dying from smoking, it hit home, hard.

I'd always said that if I wanted kids, I'd stop smoking for them until they were older, then I'd do as I damned well pleased, but now I realise I'd have people then who'd be pretty sorry to see me go.

Should check out my stop smoking support network it is a cool place and very peaceful.

Congratulations on quitting. I have been a Respiratory Therapist for 22 years. In that time I have seen countless people die from the ravages of smoking and I have seen the toll it has taken on their loved ones. My father died from COPD. That was the hardest of all to watch. I have really severe asthma. I know how it is not to be able to breath. I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want to purposely pollute their lungs. If you ever want to smoke again, think about what it does to your family, no matter how old you are!
