animals and horses and dogs
in particular. Therefore, when I was a little girl and came across a book about a beautiful black horse I just had to read it. I had no idea that story would stick with me and make me want to cry and rage at the injustices in it even years later. After reading the book I just had to find out if what I read was true or if it was all made up by the author. I was horrified to learn that the things that happened in that book really did happen at the time and that there are still atrocities happening today. All we have to do is look to the nation's race tracks to find them. I though, like most, that the rodeos were included in that umbrella of animal cruelty but I learned just last year that those that are accredited are far from cruel. The animals in the care of the those ranchers that provide animals to the rodeos are taking better care of them than most people take care of their backyard dogs. I just wish the animals of then and now could be treated more conscientiously and kindly than is generally the case.
