I Almost Died After Receiving A Root Canal

I realized that life is too short when I almost died from a routine dental procedure. the day I came home after I had received a root canal the pain began to get worse. the left side of my face began to swell. by the second day my body began to reject the antibiotics that the dentist gave me. I went to the emergency room and they gave me a different kind of antibiotics and sent me home.

My body began to reject the new antibiotic too. by this point the left side of my face was very swollen. My mom came over my house to help out with my children and when she saw my face she sent me to the hospital again. The doctor proscribed me with another antibiotic and was about to send me home when another doctor came to check his work before sending me home, she suggested they try to see if I keep the new antibiotics down before the sent me home.

After they gave it to me my body began to reject it still and they finally decided to admit me. After running a few test they found out that I had a abscess and an antibiotic resistant organism had spread through my blood system. My face swelled up so bad I could barely open my left eye.

At this point all I could think about were my 5 year old and 1.5 year old daughters. I realized that life was to short I was only 23 years old and I was so scared that I was not going to make it.

They finally found and antibiotic that worked and after a few days in the hospital receiving it they brought in a special surgical dentist from Harvard University to remove the abscess and my tooth. After a few days of recovery and more antibiotics I came home on Thanks Giving.

That thanks giving and every one that followed I am most thankful to be alive and to be with my girls because life is too short to take your love ones and your life for-granted.

root canals are unbearable! i had to go through that too! :(

Aww I feel your pain :(, I was traumatized for a while I couldn't ride past a hospital or a dental practice with out having flash backs, never again.. I rather get my teeth pull out...put me to sleep.

But thank goodness everything worked out

I could just kiss that doctor that decided to admit me because it probably would have been too late if they sent me home again. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about it, but I'm just so happy to be alive.

You need better dentists!

Bad/ cheep Insurance equals cheep/ bad dental work. I defiantly have a dental phobia now.
