My boyfriend of four years just left for boot camp two days ago. We have the perfect relationship and I couldn't be happier. I don't really know anything about the navy so I'm lost when it comes to how much we can talk, when he can come home, ect. I'm also kind of worried about how the navy can change him as a person. If anyone can give me advice id love to hear it!

First, welcome to the club!!! :) And sorry if this is VERY long!
Now, google is your biggest friend! I myself had no clue about anything regarding the navy before my boyfriend joined. I google any questions I have. Joining EP was also one of the best things I've done. All the ladies are very supportive and helpful and who better to talk to about what you're going through than those who understand your situation?!
Communication: SNAIL MAIL! It will take around 3 weeks to get that first letter from your bf. (usually a thursday..sometimes a friday) But I can't guarantee you that. Some get their first letter anywhere between 4-5 weeks. However, you will get his address probably around week 2. As soon as you do, write him! They get mail call every day Mon-Fri. But are only allowed to mail their letters on Sundays. My advice, don't wait to get his letter to send yours. Send yours as often as possible. It'll keep him happy during the stressful week. Our letters are their only outlet.
PHONE CALLS! These are never guaranteed and varies within divisions. Calls need to be earned. It's a privilege. RDC's (their officers) determine whether they make one or not. If his division is doing well and passing tests (and if he's lucky enough to get RDC's that are kind enough to grant phone calls often) then they might earn calls. You can get one any day at any time (I keep my cell volume up and next to me at all times) Note: If he doesn't call, this doesn't mean he's doing poorly. Some say no call is a good sign. My bf must have been lucky with his RDC's because he has called me twice in 6 days!
AFTER BOOTCAMP: Once he graduates from basic training he'll go to A and/or C school either that very day, day after or once the weekend is over (if you go to his PIR you can spend time with him during Liberty!). The length of schooling depends on his "rate" or job. He'll let you know how long that should be. Ex., my bf's school will be 6 weeks. The best part about it is that you can skype, text, call, as much as you want. you can even go and visit him if you'd like.
Don't worry about him changing. That's my biggest fear as well but every time I read his letters or get a call he is his old self. Only he's changed in some aspects. He's become much more of a man. Just stay positive. Time will fly. I found the first week to be excruciatingly slow.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write me this! It truly helped me out so much ! I have written him everyday since he has left so he will definitely not be without letters! I know this journey is going to be hard but if others couples can do it I know we can! Thanks so much again !!

You're welcome. It was my pleasure! If you have any other questions, feel free to message me whenever you'd like:)
