The Giving Heart Of A Stranger In Pain.

In 1993, while working two jobs, I began to feel more tired than usual. I was having stomach pains often. I was told that I had a urinary tract infection which I was hospitalized for, for 5 days. I couldn't get any relief so I returned to my doctor's office. By then I couldn't sit up straight. I was taken immediately to the ER. I was admitted and told that I had hep B. My uncle who is a doctor, had me transferred to Duke in Durham NC after a week. I was told by nurses that the illness just had to run it's course and then I would be fine. Less than 5 minutes in the door of Duke, I became deathly ill. I was placed on the transplant list. I won't go into all that right now. I wanted to share most importantly that after 6 weeks, I was given a second chance. No words could ever express my gratitude to the parents of my donor. I must say that there is guilt behind how I received my gift at times. I am so grateful to them. I sent a letter years ago reaching out but did not get a response. I don't know if I would want to meet the person that survives a horrific ordeal as a result of my child losing hers. Again I am so blessed that a stranger found it in their heart while their heart was breaking to give the gift of life. Thank you!
