Four R's

A personal story in the experience: I Recycle
T here is the well known three R's - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Well in this consumer driven throw away world there is a fourth R to use to reduce your impact on the world. In a way it is a return to what people of two to three generations ago did and that is Repair.

Don't buy the cheapest products that will come to the end of their useful life very quickly. Buy more expensive better quality products. Usually when you divide price by length of use you get out of the product the better quality products work out cheaper. Redusing your consumption. Better quality also means it is economically viable to Repair extending the product life even further.

Reduse, Reuse, Repair, Recycle

Thanks Dawnriser, sadly I do not think the idea of stepping back to practices of a couple of generations ago has any hope of catching on.

I do see more people leaning that way, really ;-)
Maybe its because I hang out with a lot of Unitarians who are typically a socially conscious group.
But there are others, too, of course.
But you are right. To get all the way back we would need for the economic situation to get a lot worse. But who knows? Maybe it will.
