Bad News

How ironic is this?

Just two days ago I wrote,

"In my area we have a center where I take newspaper.misc. paper -- what a waste -- Cans, glass, plastic, and caedboard. Our questionable practice of occasional burns (we are in the country) of mail with personal info in it, etc., leaves us with very little to have hauled away and put in a landfill which we have taken every several YEARS!  "

And today, on the front page of our newspaper was the news that due to the economy our recycling center was discontinuing collection of all materials except paper and cardboard.

It seems the prices paid for the goods has dropped so low as not to be profitable to collect and deliver them any longer. But I wish they would give us a place to take them just because it is the right thing to do.

Tis sad. <br />
And I really hate the idea I may have to send all the now Trash to the land fill, and pay $4 a bag to do that.

When I was living in Oz the local council never made money out of recycling. They did a weekly collection simply because the community felt it was the right thing to do even though it cost them higher council fees. I wish my present council felt the same way but alas they are like yours not interested in collecting recycables unless they can at least break even, the O Mighty Dollar rules again.
