We Were Friends Since 6th Grade. The earliest childhood friend I remember and cherish till this day is my classmate from the 6th grade. To this day, though we are not in touch, I feel connected with her. I am sure she remembers me as well. It is now 40 years but I still remember those days as if they happened yesterday. She was truly a friend in need is a friend in deed. I still remember the nightmares I was having with my LCM(Maths) and she patiently explained it to me till I understood it. That was the turning point in my love for maths. After that, everything started getting very clear. Even though we were together only for 2 years ,since my family moved to another city after the 7th grade, we wrote to each other and kept in touch till she took up a job. After that the letters became sporadic and finally stopped. She did visit my house once in my absence and cried that I was not at home. I went to see her at her house once and we had a lovely time. After a few years I ran into her where I was posted in West Division of Postal Dept. and she was working in another office nearby. Shortly after that she invited me to her wedding reception but I am sorry to say I didn’t go. She met my sister a couple of times and once gave her the visiting card of her husband’s which unfortunately I lost. Then I came to know she was transferred to another office but somehow I never managed to visit there. Now I don’t know where she is. Hope I meet her again.
Then I have had short and sweet friendships, nothing as long lasting as with her. There was my classmate in 8th grade of a school I studied in since my parents relocated in another city. Then, there was another good friend of 9th grade. She was a very naughty girl and loved to caricature while classes were going on. We used to sit in the last bench and scribble notes to each other and giggle away all the time afraid the teacher might catch us. She never did. Especially the boring social studies class.
I haven't revealed the names of my friends to protect their identity.
