We Were Seven Years Old And He Asked Me NicelyWe had been friends since we started first grade a year earlier and we used to play during recess every day. He was very different from most other boys in our class - less caring about whether or not he was 'cool' which made me think he was even cooler. He thought I was different too, I remember him telling me 'your not superficial like such and such in our class and that's one of the many things I like about you'. Yup, you guessed right. We were both pretentious and precocious and have thus remained ever since.
I don't remember exactly the situation but I remember us having an 'adult' discussion about whether or not we should be boyfriend-girlfriend. We decided that it would be a good idea and then he said that if it was all right for me he thought we should kiss. So we did and then spent the rest of the school year holding hands and giving each other the occasional peck on the lips (which everybody in our class thought was disgusting yet exciting and we just didn't care what it was)
Then of course summer break came along and we decided it best to part ways during those long months. To this day though, he remains one of my dearest friends and we have shared more kisses since that first one when we might have been a bit to young to realise what a beautiful thing we were doing.
