Rooftop Kiss

T ommy was his name.  He'd climbed up a ladder to the garage rooftop, and he called to me to come up, too.  I was scared, but I climbed carefully, and he held out his hand to steady me as I made that wobbly last step from the top rung onto the shingles. Clambering up on hands and knees, soon we were on the ridgetop, and I sat down next to him.  We were both 5 years old, and we were up in the sky, and I was joyous and amazed and fearful both of falling and of getting caught by my parents!  Tommy leaned his face close to mine, looking in my eyes, his open wide and blue, and then he kissed me on the mouth.  I must have looked shocked, because he laughed again, then crawled back towards the ladder, over and down, leaving me to find my own courage to get down on my own.  I'm not sure how I did it, but somehow I came back down to the ground safely.  Yes.  Kisses have always been dangerous!  Seduced, kissed, then abandoned at such a tender age!
