I Will Always Remember My First Love

We all had a first love, it wasn’t necessarily our first boyfriend or the first man we made love to, but it was the love we compare all others to and hold in our heart forever in a special place. Maybe that is because for most of us were very young when we first fell in love so it didn’t have all the real problems that life brings as reality sets in and you grow up and because of that the first love makes us remember the simple pure love unfettered by reality. Mine told me to wait for him when we reconnected over the death of a mutual friend, twenty years after we had become separated by his new job and my college education, and he told me he had always loved me and to wait for him just a little longer and he wanted to come back to me. The romantic in me thought maybe this was going to be what I had been waiting for and then he had a heart attack and died just as I was buying the place we both had dreamed of living on for the rest of our lives. Also I think this relationship had the position of being the only serious relationship I have had that was broken up by distance and not a fight so I never harbored bad feelings towards the man. I have always felt it was nice to have a pleasant feeling about my first love instead of having it end badly.

Sounds like my first love. Except he is alive and we both moved on and been happily married to others for over 20 years. We reconnected a few years ago on facebook and keep in touch. Nice to see he is happy and remembers me. While I deeply love my husband, he will always have a special place in my heart and memories. Your description about first love is so true. Thanks for sharing.
