The Rotary Dilemma

I was at a friends house visiting and her youngest daughter had several friends over, she was six or seven. Anyway, this one little girl was supposed to call her parents when she was ready to be picked up. She came into the kitchen, where we were sitting and very politely asked to use the phone.

My friend showed her the phone in the kitchen, a large modern reproduction of those old wood cased wall phones. My friend sat back down and we continued our conversation. It took a moment, but we finally noticed the little girl just staring at the phone.

My friend asked her what was wrong? The girl looked at her, very perplexed and said, "Where are the button's to push?" She had no idea how to dial the phone.
