(I'm seeing that I need to update this story with an actual account of his rescue, because it was a wonderful moment when I first found him and he found me. I will try to update this soon.)

Posted Apr 1st, 2008 at 8:44PM It IS up beat Tate ! You rescued a cat from being put to death and showed him love until he was really ready to go, not just cause no one wanted him. And then, instead of just letting him out the door and abandoning him you took him to be put down with the love you gave him.
Posted Jun 17th, 2008 at 12:32PM I had my little Oreo (aka queen of the house) for 13 years. I had to take her to the vet when I noticed a tumor. He actually told me that it was extrodinary that she was even still alive and relatively pain free and "healthy" but the cancer riddling her little body. I held her in her final moments and she said a gracious thank-you with her rumbling purr. Moral. She was a rescue, was much loved and lived a beautiful life. It's what we give our cats in return for them allowing us in their lives.
Posted Jun 18th, 2008 at 3:45PM Thank you, Tia. ((hugs)) I do feel very grateful for the time we spent together. It's funny how desire creeps in to so many situations and can cloud our ability to truly live in the moment and see what we have. He gave me such a sense of perspective, and comfort. I think those are the things I still miss the most about his presence. I have to figure out a way to give myself those things now, and sometimes I just feel like I am groping in the dark.
Posted Jun 18th, 2008 at 3:47PM This might sound a little cold but try another cat. Save another cat in his memory. I was angry at my parents when they brought a new puppy into the house when my baby had been just killed a couple days ago. My mother gave me an interesting perspective. She said that by taking in another dog, it would be easier for the younger siblings who did not understand and we would be giving another creature a home, love, and a happy life. Who am I to argue with logic like that?
Posted Jun 18th, 2008 at 4:28PM :) Aw, that doesn't sound cold to me. I think that would probably work. I have actually been a dog person more than a cat person for most of my life, and I would love to get one someday, but my circumstances at the moment wouldn't really be fair to a pet. If I find a place where I'm not moving around so much I think I will try to get one, but until then, I have to figure out an option for comfort and perspective, independently of that. I am optimistic, though. :)
