I Riches To Rags
It never ceases to amaze me how people gravitate to you when you have money and how they run a mile when you run out.
This is the shorthand version...the rest...well I could write a book!
Little over a year ago, I received a call from my Lawyer overseas...."Michael I have good news for you, we did a search of the land registry and there are nine real estate properties on the registry in your fathers name" And it all started there..... 35,000,000 square meters of land and property I was suddenly heir to in my fathers name (who is long deceased). And even though it was incredible, it was there in government documents in his unique name which no search engine found anyone similar. And to further reinforce this, he even had said, many years ago, there's land and property in his name for you after he dies.
OMG! This was in a country, where housing and land prices was rising at very healthy rates and where the current buy was anything between $750-$1500 per square meter. It's like winning the lottery!
At the start I was very skeptical and cautious about this, but as time went on it became more and more credible.
And as this occurred, I became less cautious with my spending.
I remember at that time. I had no debts and nice bank balances.
And with this type of news, even though I did not publicize it, everyone wanted a piece of the cake and wanted to be my friend!
Everything was so exciting, and I had amazing plans to develop all of this into the most amazing real estate portfolio you could ever imagine. In a matter of years it would have been worth billions and the entry point was huge close to 100 million dollars.
Isn't it sick when you have a piece of paper next to your name giving you such a high net worth, how everyone desperately wants to be your friend. How banks roll out red carpet for you, how all the girls clamour over you, and all that.
And when it's gone up in smoke - they all vapourize in a similar way?
Surely there must be some genuine people out there who are not like that? It makes you very cagey and skeptical that there is after you've been through something like this.
Today, every credit card card I have is maxed out and over it's limit including most of my accounts! I have no job (looking for a new one), and I've lost most of my friends.
And the sad news.....as the land was being surveyed by international realtors, it came up there was a mix up in the name - OMG and you can imagine that kills it right there.
Maybe one day, something good will come out of this. I don't wish this type of experience on anyone.
