I've Been On Practically No Sleep For Two Days

When I was twelve, my uncle Ryan made me watch the first Nightmare on Elm Street movie. He claimed that he watched it when he was sixteen and that it scared the **** out of him so bad he couldn't sleep for a few months because he kept thinking Freddy would come after his *** in his sleep. I was very hesitant about watching it after that revelation, but I wound up doing it and... The movie didn't really scare me. I found it more entertaining than scary. I slept like a baby that night. That movie didn't freak me out.

Over the years, I watched the other Nightmare on Elm Street films and I found them all equally entertaining. None of them terrified me. And then three days ago... I watched what I believe to be the last Nightmare on Elm Street film and...
That's the movie that did it for me.

That Nightmare on Elm Street movie put the fear of Freddy Krueger in me in five minutes and it put it in real good! So good that coffee became my best friend Saturday night and it's Tuesday now and I STILL haven't gotten much sleep!
It. Freaked. Me. Out. Shitlessly.

The thing is, I don't know WHY it freaked me out. It's not like I haven't seen worse and much more violent movie scenes before! For some reason though, when one of the characters has a dream about his physically abusive mother who was trying to clean out his ear (causing him to need a hearing aid due to her damaging his eardrum outside his dream world), I had a bit of an earache so when that scene came on and I saw the giant Q-tip go in one of his ears and out the other and his groans and yelps of pain, I couldn't take it. I winced and whimpered along with the guy and covered my eyes. That was painful to watch. I almost started crying a little, no lie. Anyway, he survived and I thought that was the worst of it and was relieved. Then Freddy snatches his hearing aid, leaving the poor guy deaf and he screams for it back so Freddy throws it at him. When he puts it on, the sound is amplified on his hearing aid and everything sounds super loud and excruciatingly painful. So Freddy torments him for a while, dropping a pin on the ground and then dropping a large handful of them for better effect. He then proceeds to pull out a chalk board and start scratching his claws against it, causing that screech that annoys everyone. The guy screams in pain unable to take the hearing aid off due to Freddy getting it stuck in his ear and Freddy continues scratching up against the chalk board. The guy begs and begs him to stop, blood running out of his ears, mouth and nose but Freddy continues ruthlessly tormenting him with the sound until finally, the guy's head explodes. That's not the first head I have ever seen explode in a horror movie, but for some reason, that chilled me to the bone. It wasn't even that gruesome a scene, but my god...

The next scene that for some reason got my heart pounding at my chest a million miles an hour was the next death, which involved the stoner guy. He fell asleep while the girl who got raped by her father went out looking for the guy with the hearing aid, not knowing he fell asleep and was already killed by Freddy. While he's asleep, he sees the deaf guy on TV telling him to wake up, not to fall asleep, urging him to wake up but he doesn't. He remains asleep and then Freddy fills the screen and tells the stoner guy if he wants to play a video game. The dude, unaware of who Freddy was, allows Freddy to entrap him into the TV screen and in the video game, which was a Super Mario video game, by the way. I thought that was awesome. :D Anyway, so he gets the guy in the game and he's ******* around with him, causing him to get hit by whatever he could get hit by in the game, causing him bodily damage outside the dream world where he is jumping around and breaking through the ceiling with his head, getting his body hurled through the windows, etc, before Freddy finally drops him in a pit of lots of video game guys with rackets (LMAO!). The death was not exactly seen there. I was left to assume the guys with the rackets had beaten and whooped him to death with those when he fell into the pit. It was a retarded death scene. It really was, but for some reason, it highly disturbed me. And then as I saw the TV in the film shut off from the video game and slowly start to fill with blood as it started to pour out of the screen, I nearly pissed myself. Don't ask me why it scared me. I've seen worse scenes, but ****...

That Saturday night, I couldn't go to sleep. I couldn't. For the first time in all the NOES films I watched, all I could think about at bedtime was those two movie scenes. Finally, I managed to fall asleep only to what? Have myself a lovely nightmare involving Freddy Krueger where I woke up at two in the morning heart-pounding and with an unbelievable desire to go pee when I previously didn't feel such a need to. No bloody way did I go back to bed after that. Coffee became my best friend for the rest of the night. How have I been sleeping these past two nights? By setting my alarm to wake me up at every hour of the night, resulting in a restless to very little sleep at night. Why? So that if I happen to get another nightmare with Freddy Krueger, at least my alarm clock will be waking me up hopefully a few minutes into it before I have to see anything horrid or have something terrifying done to me at his hands.

I know right? Seven years of watching Nightmare of Elm Street movies and NOW one of the films decides to put the fear of Freddy Krueger in me hardcore? Damn, damn, damn. I actually winced and shuddered writing those scenes here...
