I Saw A Possum
I was in a great deal of pain and on heavy medication, both pill form and interveniously. I was so high on medication I wasn't thinking right. It wasn't too bad outside and after being in the hospital everyday for almost two months was wanting fresh air. I went out to smoke taking a chair with me to sit on in the driveway where I have full view of the sky. My roommate thought it best not to leave me out there alone because I was so drugged (at least I felt good). I was sitting there rambling on and listening to my roommate so I thought, while I was taking a drag off of my cigarette. The cherry lit up like a little ember as I pulled the smoke into my lungs and my roommate mumbled something. My eyebrows pointed downward as I thought why is she mumbling?? I said huh? Then blew the smoke out in one giant cloud and she repeated herself but sat stiff not moving an inch. I started laughing and said wth are you saying I can't understand you? She said in clenched teeth as if the possum might here her, "There is a possum right behind you!" I started to take another drag off of my smoke when it dawned on me what she had just said. I slowly turned around and looked at the possum who was about 3 feet behind me looking up at me like a cat looking at its owner. I said, heyyyy little fella, wanna come inside and get something to eat and laughed so hard. Then I turned to my roommate and said, I am too high and lazy to get up off of my *** and move so I hope he doesn't plan on being a lap pet. Then I turned around and said to the possum go home lil guy, and stay out of the street as much as possible. He looked up as if he understood and I watched as his big butt wobbled away.
