As im typing this i am listening to the paddle connect over and over again with my 14 year old cousin lindsay's rear end. She's staying with us while her parents are out of town.

So, i was just sitting here in the living room watching tv when i heard lindsay say "that's f'n sh*t" pretty loud to her friend on the phone. Apparently my mom heard it clearly too because just a few seconds later mom came tearing through the living room with the paddle in hand. Then, the next thing i know mom is leading lindsay through the living room and toward the kitchen while scolding her and swatting the seat of lindsay's jeans with the paddle.
When they got to the kitchen through my cousin's apologies and pleas i heard the sink running which i know from experience that mom was soaping up a wash cloth for lindsay's mouth.
I was right because lindsay's pleas became muffled and turned into whines once the sink shut off. Mom just kept on scolding and promising lindsay that she's going to be a very sorry little girl for using that language in her house.

It sounds like mom just finished up the spanking because i just heard her tell lindsay to put her nose up into the corner. Poor poor lindsay.

Katie that must have been hard for you -- listening and writing about your cousin's spanking all at once. Listening is always hard, even when the spanking was well-earned. The advice about helping her clean up her use of unacceptable in public language is all good. IF your mom were to make it a requirement for you to relay to her whether your cousin has cussing lapses or not, then you would not be a snitch or a tattletale. You would just be obeying your mom. Hint to her that she should require this. Then you can prod your cousin in the right direction and not feel guilty.

  I agree with Michelle, both her mouthwashing and spanking were well earned. She would have received the same in our home.
  Also, I agree with LizMom in you should of at least warned your cousin that kind of language is not appropriate. Being an older cousin, I also feel it is your responsibility to help guide her, especially considering she is staying in your home.
  But on telling your mother, I can see you not doing so right away. However, if she still continued doing so (swearing) after you warned her about it, then you should tell your mother. However, your mother found out and Lindsay was taken care of appropriately, so that did not become a factor.
  I am hoping Lindsay learned her lesson and she curbs her language. If not, then yes, I would agree in telling your mother.

  I don't think you should be in trouble, no. But I do think if she misbehaves at your home when your mother is not around, it is certainly within your rights and responsibilities to tell your mother, or her parents. If that results in her getting her bottom paddled, well, it was her own fault, not yours.

  I'm not sure that you should tell on your cousin. She trusts you as a freind, and you are not her babysitter. She did deserve the paddling she got, but I trust that she will have learned her lesson!

  Yeah...i still feel bad for her though. She didn't know my mom had gotten home. She had been on the phone for a while and i heard her cuss plenty...then mom got home :(

  Now katie, you should have been a mature and responsible cousin and told her to stop the bad language. You also should have informed your mother when she got home. I am disappointed the way you handled this young lady.

  Yes, honey as her older cousin it is your responsibilty to help guide her and also inform somebody if lindsay is acting in a way she shouldn't
  I am willing to bet your mother would agree with me. I almost feel that your mother should put the paddle across your botttom to help you understand that.
