I Saw Something Funny Today
What I saw was more cute than funny, but it made me chuckle, anyway.
I was driving home about noon-ish. The roads were all very quiet. Practically abandoned because of Super Bowl Sunday.
I came to a set of train tracks that I cross every day. They've been unused for years, and the city actually took out the stop sign at the intersection.
But I stopped. Because I saw three boys trying to cross the street.
They had their bikes with them, and all three were armed with long sticks and buckets.
I have no idea what kind of trouble they were planning on getting into with their sticks and buckets, but the fact that they were out playing in the sunshine made me smile.
And they were cute as hell, walking down the train tracks single file.
They reminded me of the kids from Stand By Me. I think one of them even had a striped shirt on.
I waved them across the road while I chuckled to myself.
It's sad that things like that are such a rare sight anymore.
Kids playing outside and entertaining themselves without electronic devices. A novelty.
