It's very sad that some parents don't step up and really take care of their children :(

Yikes, it makes me wonder if the child would have been better off if you hadn't found the mother... at least a foster home wouldn't ditch her at a store.

    Yuck

It is so sad isn't it. I witnessed something similar last winter in a store. A little boy, about 2 was following around a woman and her children. she noticed and soon the store was alerting security. some customers kept him occupied until security came. I watched this for about 15 minutes and at no time did a parent show up. I had to leave and often wondered what happened to the child. The sad thing was that the child wasn't even crying. He was just looking for someone to follow.

I see. I wouldn't expect to hear about it on the news; they're too busy covering "exciting" things, like armed robberies, or the latest celebrity scandal. Honestly, I don't think most people give a damn. In our society, most people just keep on walking, ignoring the crying little girl. I will never forget the kindness of the one customer who did care, who dropped everything she was doing and went over to the girl, trying to calm her down, tell her everything was going to be okay. If I were to hear anything though, I'll be sure to post it.

I guess what I should have said is that I hope you don't hear anymore about this, meaning on the news because that would mean she did it again.

I wonder what happened to her, but I have no way of knowing. The woman and children were just customers; once they leave the store, I never see them again. Hopefully her mother either saw sense or at least had the common decency to hand her over to the proper authorities (Her being an immigrant, possibly illegal, complicates things.).

There shouldn't have been a problem (at least not enough to justify abandoning one's child) of food in the cupboard; we have public assistance to help with such things.

Very sad for the child, being so distraught, she must have known her mother was trying to leave her.

What a desperate woman to try to leave her child, I wonder if she had enough food for the family.

I would have called child services, after getting the licence plate to check the family were ok

Honestly, if I were the manager, I wouldn't have even bothered chasing down the girl's mother; I would have just called the police and had her taken away to a (hopefully) better place.

That is heartbreaking. My fear is that she went somewhere else and tried again. I pray for that child.

This story really tears at my heart. I wonder how many other children the woman has. I wonder why she is allowed to have children. Too often people like this are on some sort of public assistance and keep having children because they are allowed to do so and they collect money for them.

In a perfect world, everyone who is not a taxpayer and collects public assistance should be sterilized, at least temporarley while they are taking our tax money.

the story also reminds me that people should be qualified to have children. We don't let people drive or even cut hair without a license, why should we allow people to have children when they are so un-qualified.

Don't lecture me about human rights and the constitution...in your heart you know I'm right.

they should have called childrens services, a woman like that will abuse the child or posibly kill the child. look at the news, happens all the time. children should be valued and seen as precious blessings that they are. i will pray Gods protection over her.
