I Say Bring Back the Normal School
When I look at the constantly rising costs of schooling I wonder if we would'nt be better served to go back to the day of the normal school. I come from a family of teachers -- Gradfather a colleg Professor and President, father a high shcool teacher and coach, wife retired from 35 years of teaching 7th grade, and one thing all of them have told me -- the best teachers are the ones who care.
Why can't we go back to the "old days" in the lower grades? Are the REAL requirements for a 1st grade teacher an understanding of Quantum physics and the most esoteric of Shakespearean minutia, or thre ability to care for childrten, understand them, and guide them?
