My Son Was One

The school labeled my son with so many learning disabilities that I can not remember all of their names. Public school was a struggle for him. After a lot of research I found that all of the labels they were putting on my son possibly belonged under one label: Dyslexia. So, I got him tested and found that I was correct. When I showed this to the school, they said that they had tested him and decided he was not, therefor they would not accept the private testing that I had done. My opinion is that they were getting too much money from all of the other programs that they had him in.

He has speach issues similiar to those that stutter, only instead he forgets to breath between words when he is nervous. The result is that all of his words get blended in together and he's difficult to understand. Because of this, his special education classes, his glasses, and red hair, he was bullied daily from students. He once said that he would rather be dead than be in school.

For these reasons, my children are homeschooled. Through homeschool I have been able to get my son beyond grade level in many subjects, when in public school he was considered a special education student. He is now in 8th grade and finishing up pre-algebra and is currently taking high school biology.

I am proud to be in the same world as you.

Wow! It takes real determination and self dicipline to keep a child on task in home schooling. But in the climate of indulgence that our society has now, that is the best thing you could do to help your child assemble the tools he will need to compete.
