Best Watched In Winter

A personal story in the experience: I See the Northern Lights
B ut more comfortable to watch in Summer:) We take blankets out on nights when a good display is predicted, lay on the back lawn and go "ooh" and "ahh" a lot. On one occasion we saw the aurora corona, and it reminded us powerfully of the Thunderbird in Native lore. Made me ponder a bit on the origin of the myths.

The thing with photos is that they are still. Thr aurora doesn't stay still for a second, not only does it shimmer but there are wave forms though it, the colours change constantly, and the whole display changes shape. See if you can find it on You Tube or even buy a DVD, if you're too far South to see it. Trying to time a visit with a good display is tricky.
