That Awful Uniform Smell

Fellow Brothers know What I'm talking about. It was a smell like no other. So many other war veterans always wondering why we did it. Would get in our face. How dare you disrespect the uniform and burn it. What the hell are you doing. But it was a stinch that you couldn't get rid of. It was as bad as the smell of death. Regardless how many times you washed it. The oder would be back within a few days. Even Lysol or pine oil could not kill it. That's why that 99% of Vietnam OD uniform that we wear on veterans day is a reproduction and always look so new. Because we had no choice but to burn the ones we wore in country. It was the only thing that could destroy that smell and that fire even smelled of death.
