Old Fairytales

I remember when I was a child I used to be fascinated by fairytales. My two favourites were Bluebeard, and The Little Matchgirl. I still love these stories, and I'm saddened by the fact that many of the old fairytales are widely considered inappropriate for children, because they are too "scary" and "dark". These stories have been read to children for years and years, and I personally don't think children are damaged by them at all.

See the truth is they weren't written for children. They were written for the ladies of the aristocracy of the Ancient Regime (XVIIth century approximatively for these stories) so they could have a safe scare. Do you know about Sleeping Beauty? In the end the gets raped and is awaken by her child sucking away the poison while desperately trying to suck milk.
