Revisiting Harriet The Spy

I recently bought a copy of Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh.  It was one of my childhood favourites.  When I was twelve, I thought I was Harriet.  All through my teens I kept a notebook.

It was even better than I remembered.  After all it was a long time ago.  I especially love Ole Golly.  The letter she wrote to Harriet when Harriet's friends found her notebook is truly profound.

I recommend it highly to anyone who has not read it yet.

I guess then you are in the same position as Harriet. Except noone has found your notebook - yet.<br />

Writing in my journal, and in my blog, and on EP is a great comfort to me. But disposing of private thoughts does pose a problem.

I love Harriet the Spy as well. I didn't read it as a child, though, only recently. It is so good, I hace recently kept a notebook also, but I realise that if I died suddenly and someone found it, it would be an enormous stain on my reputation.
